Since going Green is all the rage now, here's a few pointers from a good article about how to approach the situation.
--Cut Here--
“ Many business people haven’t gone green because they don’t know how to start,” said Bulley. “Green practices may seem time-consuming and extraneous to day-to-day operations. But, going green is a lot like a workplace safety program: it takes some extra effort, but the results are well worth the investment.”

"If you employ a cleaning company, make sure they use green products, such as biodegradable cleaning agents free of harsh chemicals. If your office is remodeling, the new paint, wallpaper and carpeting should be low-VOC. VOC stands for volatile organic compounds, meaning harmful and irritating gases that are emitted by these products after they are installed."

Got waste? Get wise!
Along the way on our road to doing the right thing, we came across a program by the EPA that encourages partnerships between themselves and companies who are also looking to do what it take to make a difference for the planet. While this is a voluntary program, it does show who really cares about reducing solid waste nationally (and even globally, if that kind of reach is obtainable). If you own a company, or even work for a company that would like to or is currently trying to help change the planet for the better, then you can join the Waste Wise program too!
Here's how we did it:
1) Formed a team: The boss, me, and the guys in the back..
2) Determined the program's scope: Company wide examination of all our processes which can be bettered..
3) Established a baseline: There was no baseline, nor a system for measuring one (so one has to be developed!)..
4) Evaluation of options: Where opportunities existed for proactive solutions, systems were developed..
5) Set goals: ... Obtainable goals ranging from developing a metric for measurement of waste, to locating vendors with more recycled content..
6) Implement programs: The actual work part, evaluated and recollected on a yearly basis..
7) CHANGE THE WORLD!
As a part of our Green77 Project, we have committed ourselves to helping repair the world (and the living creatures on it) one step at a time, won't you?
Check out the Waste Wise website for all the details.. it's easy and it can even save your company money!

Got extra drums?
Do you have extra drums from the products you purchase for your business? What can you do with them?
Well, you can always throw them away (assuming they are cleaned). But we'll tell you what we do with them.

RECYCLE AND REUSE!
If they are in good condition, we reuse them! Got a product that sees repeated use? Just reuse it for the same product, thus reducing the amount of new drums you use (and subsequent cost!). This also works with smaller and larger containers. Don't throw them away if you can reuse them!
What if the drums look like they just got in the losing end of a fight with Godzilla? That's when you recycle! That's right, there are companies that will take your used (and internally cleaned) drums free of charge, and some who may even pay you!
So take a tip from us: don't throw away those drums, they can help you make money!

The High Efficiency Motor.
High efficiency motors can reduce energy consumption by as much as 45% in comparison to standard motors. Look for seals of approval designating your motor's power savings abilities to take another step in Greenifying the planet. (One of the mixer motors we use below; not only does it make money, but it saves money too).
Did you know:
Installing electric motors having the highest electrical energy efficiency commensurate with your needs. Energy-efficient can save you money by reducing your energy costs.
In addition, you will be reducing your dependence on power generated by power plants. So remember to calculate not just initial costs, but also costs over time are what you should look at when buying a new motor. The planet and future generations will thank you.

Greener Grass is in California?
According to a recent report by a research group known as Next10, California has shown higher growth rates in Green jobs than in standard jobs (10% vs 1%).
In addition the research reveals California leads the nation in Energy Efficiency by producing $2.17/GDP for every 10,000 BTU used versus $1.29/GDP in the rest of the nation. It also highlights that using Green energy for production does not mean productivity would be hindered.
It seems that going Green has become the standard as governmental organizations have adopted Green legislation in addition to the rest of the business world turning to Green solutions as part of their overall philosophy.
We are proud to be a California Green Company, as this state has always been considered a leader in environmental concerns and regulations, proving that doing so won't ruin profits in the spirit of progress and innovation.
For now the Greener Grass may be mostly in California, but due to U.S. Government acceptance of the Green standard, I think the new rules will have overall positive effects in the other states and boost American innovative success in the future.
